Aquarium For Tetras and Pleco

Aquarium For Tetras and Pleco picture

The tetras in this 30 gallon tank are fed flake food and occasionally blood worms. They get air and filtration not only from a bio-wheel filter but from various live aquatic plants as well. The big green clump in the middle is fast-growing, oxygen-producing water sprite. The tetras are hardy and live a worry free life in schools of 4 or more fish. When they are healthy, they glow with bright red and shining blue colors.

A large pleco also lives in this tank. He is a peaceful giant among the tetras. He consumes large amounts of algae growing on tank walls and left over flake food. The pleco must be given algae wafers when the algae isn't naturally abundant to get proper nutrition. The problem a pleco in the tank is he will soon grow to be over a foot long and will be too large to be in this 40 gallon acrylic tank. Plecos in are not a good aquariums species in general, although they seem to be perfect at first. Most aquarium shops sell them as "cleaners". Only those with tanks larger than 100 gallons should expect to keep a pleco healthy for any length of time. Many aquarium shops will accept the fish back, once they grow too large.
