Bluegill Bream picture

bluegill bream have a blue mark near the gills to earn the name bluegill. They are especially common, and usually outnumber other panfish. They tend to spend a lot of time suspended at mid-depths and generally don't go deeper than 15ft. They have a mild temperament, but get more aggressive in bedding season which is sometime in the summer. Their diet might include insects that fall in the water, slow minnows, and the eggs of other fish.

A shellcracker bream is a fully matured bluegill bream that has grown large enough to crush shellfish and dig freshwater mussels from the sand. With this new diet available, their body color becomes darker with flashes of purple around the head.

This is a wonderful site I have just discovered..I will explore it a lot. I am 85 years old and find that I am reverting to many of my childhood pleasures. Entertainment today ain"t what it used to be..too much noise and the frantic pursuit of today's venues for "fun". There is nothing like the peace and serenity I get from fishing from the shore or from a boat in the River. The St. John's has everything. I love this place!
