Sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus) are one of the better fish for eating in southern inshore waters, but also one of the more difficult to catch. Many people use fiddler crabs as bait on light gear or cane poles to catch them. A proven tactic for catching sheepshead is to use crushed oysters to chum and use fiddler crabs for bait. They can also be caught on regular bottom rigs with dead shrimp. Sheepshead tend to congregate around rocks and pilings where there are plenty of crabs and other shellfish.
