How to Tie Fishing Knots picture

Knot tying is a critical skill for competitive fisherman. Simple square knots break and slip easily and are not practical for fishing. One needs a array of knots to fish effectively. At the very least, the beginning fisherman will need a good knot to connect the line to the hook. The weakest part of the man-to-fish connection is at the knots, losing a trophy fish to a busted knot can cause great despair. The videos below will show you a few basic and useful fishing knots that will help you land more fish.

clinch knot

This is a good all purpose knot for tying on a hook quickly.

double clinch knot

Same as the clinch but go through the eye of the hook twice initially to make a double loop. This is much stronger than a single clinch.

rapala knot or loop knot

Used for maximum lure action. The loop slides around the eye reducing the affect of line stiffness.

end-to-end splice

Used to fuse different lines together. This knot weakens the line overall, especially monofilament. This knot is effective for tying leaders to fly line or to heavy braided line.

perfection knot

Used to leave a small loop at the end of a line. This loop is often used to attach leaders.

arbor knot

Used to anchor down a new tie around a round spool. This knot is used to tie down the initial layer of backing line on a fly rod spool.
